As part of the X-MEN project “Masculinities, Empathy, Nonviolence”, the Fundación Cepaim team is working on the situation of migrant minors who arrive in Spain without family references and not accompanied by a person of legal age.
Focusing on the male emigration of minors, the Fundación Cepaim team seeks to identify the routes of violence in their migratory experience and the role of gender relations and cultural patterns of origin, in contrast to those of arrival, as factors still little explored in the motivations of these male minors to migrate unaccompanied by adults, being exposed to situations of risk.
The CEPAIM team will also study the legal framework and the perception of professionals and institutional representatives on the situation of minors and the resources available to them, emphasizing the factors which, as a result of institutional violence, contribute to these minors being even more vulnerable and unprotected.
In this framework, between 23 November and 21 December 2022, the team organised the online training programme “Masculinity and Equality: Reflections for intervention with young migrants” in Aragon, Spain, oriented towards professionals working with unaccompanied minors. On 24 November, the Cepaim team organised the seminar “Migrant Masculinities. Reflections and practices” in Barcelona, as part of a technical conference for social intervention professionals.
